The Mental Health Walk for Awareness
Drawing from our own personal journeys and strengthened with the resources of the largest mental health organization in the U.S., NAMI Miami-Dade provides a welcoming community of education, recovery and empowerment for individuals affected by a mental health challenge and the people who love them.
As the awareness for mental health grows, so does the need in Miami-Dade. With the funds raised from our inaugural “hybrid” Walk, we directly touched more than 6,000 students, young adults, adults, family members and local leaders with our prevention, education, mental wellness and support programs in English and in Spanish- always offered at no cost to participants. This year, we are striving to expand our impact for all those who need a voice after two highly stressful years that have left many feeling hopeless and needing support.
The families and members of NAMI Miami-Dade County are here to help! We offer understanding to anyone concerned about mental illnesses and the treatment of mental illness.
Mental illnesses are brain disorders that are biologically based medical problems. Untreated, they can cause severe disturbances in thinking, feeling and relating. This results in substantially diminished capacity for dealing with the ordinary demands of life. Mental illness can affect persons of any age and occur in any family. They are not caused by bad parenting and not evidence of weakness of character.
